Islamic Studies

This unit revises the Islamic core sources and approaches on which foundations Islamic studies are derived. Students will be introduced to the different sciences developed within Islamic studies from exegesis (tafseer), sciences of Quran (‘ilm al-Quran) and Prophetic traditions (hadith), terminology of hadith (mustalah al-hadith) and their application to Islamic jurisprudence (usul al-fiqh).
